Autor: Dostoievski, Fiódor Mijáilovich (1821-1881), novelista realista ruso. Nació en Moscú el 11 de noviembre de 1821. Su infancia fue bastante triste y, cuando contaba sólodiecisiete años, su padre, que era un médico retirado del Ejército, le envió a la Academia Militar de San Petersburgo. Pero los estudios técnicos le aburrían y, al graduarse, decidió dedicarse a la literatura. Su primera novela, Pobres gentes (1846), la desgraciada historia de amor de un humilde funcionario estatal, recibió buenas críticas por considerar a los pobres, víctimas de sus terriblescircunstancias. En 1849, su carrera literaria quedó fatalmente interrumpida. Se había unido a un grupo de jóvenes intelectuales que leían y debatían las teorías de escritores socialistas franceses, por aquel entonces prohibidos en la Rusia zarista de Nicolás I.
