Human rights and community development overview
Systemic inequality and social exclusión are the causes of cyclical poverty and vulnerability to human rights violations in El Salvador. Cristosal’sprogram for human rights and community development address these root causes by engaging with poor and marginalized communities in a sustained process of citizen empowerment, capacity building, andaction for local development.
The program has four corea reas:
1. Legal Advising, Advocacy, and Education in Constitutional and Human
Provides popular education in constitutional law and humanrights to strengthen understanding in poor communities of their rights as equal citizens as well as legal council to communities for advocacy on human rights issues, handling bureaucratic procedures,negotiations, and addressing legal barriers to development.
2. Community Organization and Planning
Supports the legal incorporation of Community Development Associations (ADESCO) and providesfacilitation and trains to communities for strategic and annual operational planning. The ability to organize and plan enables marginalized communities to work cooperatively to build a share visión fordevelopment and determine a course of action to address the structural conditions tha create and perpetúate their poverty.
3. Community Action, Networking and Formation

Provides support andtraining in drafting Project proposals for funding and local management. Develops support networks and facilitate partnerships with governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations for theexecution of develpment initiaves. Provides training and technical support in Project management so communities gain the capacity to self-manage development initiatives.
