Year 3
Strengths
Clerking – I have always enjoyed speaking to patients and I feel that clerking was a skill that I quickly adopted and felt at ease doing. Because I was quick topick up clerking skills it didn’t take me long to reduce it from 45 minutes to 35 minutes then to 20 minutes. I have clerked many patients and typed them on to iSoft; this has allowed clerking to almostbecome second nature.
PBL – has remained strength for me as I am engaging and like to listen to people talk. One of the main things that I have brought to PBL this year has been my interest inteaching and anatomy. I regularly taught my group clinical anatomy related to the case we were studying.
Communicating with patients – I often found that patients wanted more communication withtheir doctors and doctors normally didn’t communicate with their patients as much as they should do. I realised that being a medical student, I was in a valuable position to pass on information betweenthe two. This allowed me to keep patients in the loop about their investigations, results and treatment options.

PBL – Sometimes my enthusiasm within a group can be dominating and I find myself talking more than I should be doing. I usually recognise this quite quickly.Clinical – Although our timetable sometimes says we have scheduled teaching, this does not always materialise and has caused me to avoid wards on occasions. It isn’t always possible to ask doctors questionsabout cases so after speaking to patients I have left the ward but then forgotten what I wanted to ask the doctor.
Opportunities
Outpatients - This has been extremely valuable as I’ve been able...
