Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson was a president who people had mixed feelings about. Jackson had a very successful career during his life. Before he waselected President in 1828, he served as a delegate for the Tennessee Constitutional Convention, in the House of Representatives, a Senator, and as a MajorGeneral for the militia of Tennessee. However, serving in Congress did not go very smoothly. After one year of serving in Congress, Jackson resigned fromoffice. Mainly because often times, he could not control his emotions. Jackson also owned a very successful plantation, where his slaves worked. Jacksonbelieved that white people should rule over African Americans. Although Jackson had a few flaws like this and other such as, invading Spanish-owned, Florida, andproposing the passed Indian Removal Act, he also had many achievements. Jackson was a hard worker, and was elected President twice, in 1828 and 1832. AsPresident, Jackson made good choices for our country. For example, when the topic of nullification was brought up, Jackson stated that he opposed it, because itcould tear our nation apart. When South Carolina, who supported nullification, threatened to leave the Union, Jefferson wrote a message to South Carolina,stating that a Union is not made up of states but people. Also during his presidency, Jackson wanted our country to be not only for the rich, but also for theworking class. In conclusion, even though Jackson had a few mistakes in his presidency, he always tried to make the right choice for the United States.
