Buster Keaton and Charles Chaplin

One of the most significant periods in the history of world cinema developed from film comedian of the silent stage. The great comedians came through this period, and the Hollywood industry would never again enjoy such a boom of quality comedy. Undoubtedly, the comedian Charles Chaplin isbest known of all silent films, however, other comedians lived overshadowed by him. One of them was Buster Keaton. Considered by many as superior to Chaplin, Buster Keaton made a major film career showing great skill in the use of film language, both technical and content. His short and feature films talk about his evolution as a film personality, as showing that he had full knowledge of theenvironment in which it developed.

Joseph Francis Keaton was born in 1895 in the town of Pickway, Kansas. His parents, Joseph and Myra Keaton ("The two Keaton"), two comedians were so small that appeared on the scene when he was only a year old. At three years, Keaton and participated fully in the spectacle of their parents and the duo became a trio. "The three Keaton" were well known in the varietyshow, however failed to submit their numbers in 1917 for two reasons: the hostility of his father due to alcoholism and that there was little chance that Keaton will play the same role.

His first film (which marks the beginning of the relationship between the comic) was murderer Fatty (The Butcher Boy), produced in 1917. Keaton's character was that of a young "troublemaker", always absent anddistracted. When Louis B. Mayer bought his contract, Buster was subjected to the hard line of the Metro, where he was forced to make films that were not the most proper to his talent completely visual. These circumstances, adding his divorce from Natalie Taldmage, Buster took a deep depression, and much is said that this drove him to alcoholism. Dismissed from the Metro-company that later came to hirehim as a mere technical adviser and marginalized by Hollywood, Keaton saw gradually declining career. It was only brief appearances in films or low budget short films sound. It was not until in 1950 the TV returned some of its past glory. In this way participated in commercials, programs and series that did honor to his life and work. From these appearances is that Keaton was revalued, as theirwork. Festivals are held in his honor and his films are exhibited around the world. Buster Keaton died in 1966, where they lived glory and despair, and that allowed him to meet his one true vice: "the sound of the laughter of others."

In The General, considered his masterpiece, Keaton displayed their full potential as an actor, and his great performance in the areas of production, scriptwriting, editing and direction. The current success has earned Keaton gives this film a chance to be among the best American directors, as well as to meet the General as one of the ten best films in cinema history. The life and work of Buster Keaton has been studied by film critics and historians who have considered it one of the masters of silent film comedy classic American and world cinema. Currently, his films have been reissued on DVD and are often projected on television or film festivals around the world.
Keaton's work surprises with its contemporary relevance and their expertise to perform as an actor and director: "In essence, his films always revolve around the same theme: the man in the machine age. Thus, currently Keaton is unquestionable.” The delicacy and attention to detail thatmakes each of his films realize the art that unfolds throughout his career. Each creation of Keaton tried to respond to public demands.

Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in East Street, Walworth in the neighborhood of the April 16, 1889, son of a poor family of schizophrenic mother and alcoholic father. His first public appearance was at the age of 5 years, replacing its m, adrenal in a London...
