THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK:
The Anointing of the Sick is one of the extraordinary symbols of God's love for us. As the other Sacraments, The Anointing of Sick was instituted by Jesus Christ in his desire to give salvation to all the people. This Sacrament is administrated by the church to help people in need. It has two purposes, spiritual and the recovery of the bodily health of the sick. The first purpose of this sacrament is spiritual: it prepares the soul for death. This primary purpose of the sacrament can comfort and strengthen the soul of the sick person. All who receive this grace find help to decrease fear, to embrace God's will, and in extreme situation, prepare the sick to face the possibility of death. The Anointing of the Sick perhaps can be received even severaltimes. The people know what peace of mind and confidence in God this sacrament confers. This spiritual peacefulness and grace is increased by the second effect of Anointing of the Sick. The second effect is the recovery of the body of the sick or injured person. It is good for the sick person to recover, and then this recovery is expected by the person who is sick and by all who are takingcare of them. God also wants to work through natural causes. In several occasion the recovery is the result of the powers of natural work, moved by the graces of the sacrament. He has illuminated through science and other sources the recovering of many of those who are sick and suffering. This recovery can be seen in less anxiety, fear, and more confidence in God with resignation to his will. It isevident that we do not have to expect physical result from Anointing of the Sick because we cannot address God’s will. However, it is seen that the expectation of many people who receive this sacrament is the physical recovering, but it is clear which the primary purpose is and how it is works. We are blessed when we receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick in our last illness, because it gives us confidence that we shall enter into the happiness of heaven immediately after death. In addition to this sacrament, we hope that our friends, parents and the Church still will continue to pray for us after death. This prayer is a complement of the petition to God to allow us entering in his kingdom As Jesus has given us the sacrament of Baptism, in which original sin andall pre-Baptismal sins are cleansed from the soul, the sacrament of Penance, by which sins could be forgiven. Jesus instituted the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick in order to give the grace to those who are close to death and who are suffering different kind of disease. We will see how this sacrament was instituted according to the Word of God and according to the Teaching of the Church. In the New Testament, we will find in the Letter of James and the Gospel of Mark. The fundamental explanation about Anointing of the Sick is shown in the Letter of James. The text begins with a question and then shows how people who are sick should be attended. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him bring in the presbyters of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the nameof the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him” . (James 5:14-15) In this letter of James we see the primary function of the Anointing of Sick. In the second text Jesus shows an indication of this sacrament of the sick. Jesus told the apostles, going forth, "preached that men shouldrepent…, and anointed with oil many sick people, and healed them. " (Mark 6:12-13). In this text the Church is invited to exercise the sacrament to all who are in need. These people who are in need are those who look for spiritual and physical relief as we see in the third in the same Gospel of Mark. The second effect of the sacrament is shown when Jesus said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise,...
