Antismoking Law

The anti-tobacco law came into force at the beginning of 2011 and banned smoking in the workplace and in all bars and restaurants. It also forbade smoking in all public spaces. Since then, there havebeen many other changes: cigarettes are only sold in tobacconist`s, tobacco advertising has also been forbidden and the price of cigarettes has increased.   On the one hand, the implementation ofthis law has had many advantages, such as creating a healthier environment for children. In fact, smokers are not allowed to smoke near playgrounds any more, so as not to damage children`s health. Thishas spread to the workplace, bars, restaurants and all public spaces. It was annoying to be in a restaurant or in a bar and find it difficult to breath. Besides this, now people are less likely tosuffer from cancer because of passive smoking. As a consequence, a lot of people have given up smoking.   On the other hand, there is a high number of people who thinks that the implementation of this lawhas brought more disadvantages than advantages. For example, it is quite uncomfortable to smoke outside for a smoker, specially when the weather is not warm at all, and it is very annoying to have topay each time more for a packet of cigarettes. Moreover, restaurants and bars` owners have lost a lot of money, since they had to renovate their business to provide a smoke-free area for non-smokerstwo years ago. They have faced an important drop in customers, as well. Apart from restaurants and bars, there are other many businesses which have stopped getting benefits from tobacco, such askiosks, petrol stations or shopping centres, which now are not allowed to sell cigarettes, or advertising agencies, which are not allowed to advertise tobacco.   I agree with most of the rules that theanti-tobacco law has introduced and I think people will get used to them. I have nothing to say if people want to smoke at home or in their cars, but not in playgrounds or cinemas where you can damage...
