RESUMEN:

Las sobretensiones que se presentan en las instalaciones de un sistema eléctrico pueden ser de dos tipos: 1. sobretensiones de tipo atmosférico. 2. sobretensiones por fallas en el sistema. En el estudio que ahora he presentado trata de las sobretensionesde tipo atmosférico. Las ondas que se presentan durante una descarga atmosférica viajan a la velocidad de la luz y dañan al equipo si no se tiene protegido correctamente. El apartarrayos, dispositivo que se encuentra conectado permanentemente en el sistema, opera cuando se presenta una sobretensión de determinada magnitud, descargando la corriente a tierra. Las ondas que normalmente se presentanson de 1.2/50 microseg. (Tiempo de frente de onda/ tiempo de cola ). La función del apartarrayos es cortar su valor máximo de onda (aplanar la onda). Las sobretensiones originadas por descargas indirectas se deben a que se almacenan sobre las líneas cargas electrostáticas que al ocurrir la descarga se parten en dos y viajan en ambos sentidos de la línea a la velocidad de la luz. Cadaapartarrayos se encuentra normalmente abierto y se encuentra calibrado para que a partir de cierta tensión entre línea y tierra se cierre automáticamente y filtre los frentes de onda. Deben instalarse apartarrayos en plantas industriales, especialmente en lugares donde las tormentas son frecuentes y de gran intensidad. Su instalación, tanto para proteger al equipo de la subestación como al equipo deutilización, puede hacerse tanto en el exterior como en el interior del local que contiene al equipo que se va a proteger, tan cerca de éste como sea factible, tomando en cuenta que deben estar fuera de pasillos y alejados de otro equipo, así como de partes combustibles del edificio. Además, deben resguardarse, ya sea por su elevación o por su localización, en sitios inaccesibles a personas no idóneas,o bien, protegidos por defensas o barandales adecuados. ABSTRACT:

The overvoltages that occur on the premises of an electrical system can be of two types: 1. overvoltages of atmospheric type. 2. overvoltages by faults in the system.In the study I presented is now the surge of type atmosphere.
