A one year pilot study on the use of domestic ozone generators for drinking water treatment in four nurseries was carried out. The performance of OZONEY-F domestic ozonizer, developed and manufactured by Ozone Research Center (Cuba) was evaluated. It permitted to establish the maintenance scheme, the causes of the possible faults and the corrective measures. The economic benefits due to energysavings in comparison with the traditional method of boiling water for children consumption were determined. The social benefits involved in the use of this equipment are also described.

Abstract
Nowadays ozone generating systems constitute an important alternative for the water disinfection. Based on high oxidizer power and high reactivity, ozone is able to eliminate an important number of pollutants, such as microorganisms causing serious diseases and the even death. Many companies in the world are devotedto produce and comercialize domestic ozone generating systems. However, many of them they don't match the minimum requirements to guarantee an effective disinfection of water for human consumption. The aim of this work was the evaluation of Cuban and foreign water treatments domestic system. Three ozone generating systems coming from Mexico, Spain and Cuba were evaluated. Ozone concentrations ingas and in liquid were measured; it also was carried out a microbiological test using known concentrations of Echerichia coli.
The results showed that foreign ozone generating systems don't produce the enough concentration of ozone in the gas in order to make effective the ozone transfer to the liquid during disinfection process. The Cuban ozone generating systems had an ozone production over100 mg/h achieving microorganisms reduction levels superior to 99,99%. The foreign equipments evaluated don’t comply the Mexican standard for the evaluation of water treatment systems.

Abstract
Purified water system at CGEB’s Production Plant has a nominal generation capacity of 1500 L/h. This system use as raw water softened water that is obtained on a suitable system the Production Plant. The system we are analyzing is formed by several elements that combine their functions to give to waterUSP’s 26 quality specifications. Main processes in this system are reverse osmosis and continuous demineralization.
Distribution of produced purified water is carried out on a system formed by a storage tank of 2000 L of capacity, a centrifugal pump, an UV lamp and a closed loop with 28 sanitary point of use. The loop construction material is stainless steel 316L and the loop returns to the storagetank.
Ozone is injected continuously on the storage tank, using an injector installed on the loop return to the tank, to avoid growing of microbial organisms and at the beginning of the loop an UV radiation lamp is installed to destroy residual ozone before point of use. Sanitization of the loop is performed with ozone and the established frequency is once in a month or when microbiological...
