Aquifers

An aquifer is one permeable geological stratum or formation that allows the movement and storage of groundwater in the pores or cracks.
An aquifer is one permeable geological stratum orformation that allows the movement and storage of groundwater in the pores or cracks. Within these formations can meet a wide variety of materials such as river gravel, silt, limestone, very cracked,slightly porous sandstone cemented beach sands, some volcanic formations, deposits of sand dunes and even certain types of clay.

Aquifer Types

Free Aquifer: aquifer is one that is in directcontact with the under saturated zone soil.
Confined aquifer: Is one aquifer that is covered by a relatively impermeable or aquitard.

More than 50% of drinking water which is supplied from theMetropolitan Area of the Central Valley aquifer formations. This is of excellent quality, but the aquifers can be contaminated by the intense human activity that takes place on them.

The study areaincludes part of the city of Santo Domingo, Heredia, San Isidro and San Pablo Canton. This area is important because it lies within the catchment area well defined by the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueductsand Sewers and is subject to heavy urbanization.

Humans can use daily water extracted from aquifers, since they store large volumes of liquid.

IMPORTANT OF AQUIFERS:

Aquifers can be fresh orsalt water. In fact those who are most important to life are the fresh water. If you are from melt surface generally hilly but also there are underground rivers that provide freshwater to the peoplewho are not close to watercourses sweet. It is vitally important non-contamination of these water reservoirs as an increasing scarcity of freshwater on the planet. At the same time it is necessary tosensitize the population for its preservation, no pollution or waste.
