Arcadi Oliberes

Arcadi Oliveres, a Spanish economist and a renowned activist of Justice and Peace, an organization who promotes and defends human rights, came to school to make a small conference.
The talk wasbased on five points;

The first was focused on the field of information. We must verify the reliability of information sources that are within our reach. Arcadi gave the example of Somali pirates. Hesaid that they were pirates and of course they were from Somalia but no one said that the people of Somalia starve because of the abusive fishing along its seas.
Then we talk about how privileged weare. Over 100,000 people die every day because of poor nutrition. Arcadi explained to us that the world has enough food for everyone but the problem is in the distribution of this. In addition, Arcadicriticized the fact that no privileged country wanted to pay to fix for solve that but to save the banks we spent the money we need to end hunger for 72 years.
Later, very critical of the governmentsaid that these cuts are not necessary and that pursuing tax evasion could avoid them. Very sarcastic, he explained a little story about oxymorons. He found two very striking oxymorons, ethical banksand military intelligence.
He devoted the fourth item on immigration. In his way of seeing things, immigration is a right and a freedom that no one can deny and reinforced his thesis with ahistorical fact, immigration to a country grows enormously.
The final point dealt with the planet. He explained that resources are finite and that for many years we have consumed more than the planet couldgenerate. He used this point to criticize consumerism and capitalism.
Personally I think the conference was good but not everything he said is true. To begin with, made people think that the UN isperfect, but do not criticize the great banquets, expensive suits and luxury hotels enjoyed by their members.
