Theirs no childhood, with out a seesaw. Going up and down, with your best friend at the park. Its all thanks to the famous mathematician Archmides of Syracuse. The genious of Archmides did not onlydiscover roots to this but tons and tons of other stuff we use in your daily life.
Hes full name is Archimdes of Syracuse. Archmides was born c.287 BC in the provience of Syracuse in the island ofSicily. He was said to have died c. 212 BC in his city of birth Syracuse. His father, Phides, was said to be an astonomer and mathematician. Other then the previous information little is know about thisfamous mathematician's early life.
In his youth years Archmides showed an interest for problem solving. In the third century, he traveled to the famous city of Alexandria in Egypt, to continue hisstudy. Alexandria was a well know city for its vast scholarships and great learning. It so happened, that one of the best scholars of that century lived in that city, his name was Euclid. After a fewyears of study Archmides returned to his city of birth Syracuse.
In the city of Syracuse, was where he did most of his study and discoveries. One of his early inventions was the Archmides screw. Thisis a machine used to transport water from low lying water to diches. This machine contains the following items: A screw, and a hollow pipe. In many countries Archmides screw is still used forirrigation. Today Archmides screw is used in many different methods. For example: Farmors use this screw to harvest grain, with a machine named; combine harvest.
The sand of Reckoner, is one of his manydiscoveries. His invention work is 8 pages long and was for King Gelo II.In this work. Archmides wanted to find out how many grains of sand fitted in the universe. To do so he had to name large numbers ina simpler way. While doing this he discovered and also proved the law of exponents.
