Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic, is the second largest country in South America, constituted as a federation of 23 provinces and a capital city, Buenos Aires. It is theeighth largest country in the world by land area and the largest among Spanish-speaking nations, though Mexico, Colombia and Spain are more populous. Its continental area is between theAndes mountain range in the west and the Atlantic Ocean in the east. Argentina borders Paraguay and Bolivia to the north, Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast, and Chile to the west andsouth. In Argentina are around 40,482,000 people.

Geography

Argentina is about 3,900 km (2,400 mi) long from north to south, and 1,400 km (870 mi) from east to west (maximum values).The major rivers are the Paraná (the largest), the Pilcomayo, Paraguay, Bermejo, Colorado, Río Negro, Salado and the Uruguay. The highest mountain of Argentina is the “Aconcagua”.Argentina features various hot springs, such as Termas de Río Hondo with temperatures between 65°C and 89°C. The hottest and coldest temperature extremes recorded in South America have occurredin Argentina. A record high temperature of 49.1 °C.
