ARGENTINA AND ITS AGRICULTURE
The agricultural activity is one of the pillar of the Argentina´s economy, has a vast territory and varied climatic which allows greatcrop distribution. The agricultural region more important is the eastern Pampas and southern Mesopotamia with climate and favorable soil for the cultivation of cereals,oilseeds, fodder, fruit and vegetables.
The agricultural activity is dominated by cereals, standing wheat and corn, with 9 and 12 millions of tons by year. Other majorcrop is rice is grown mostly in the northeast of the country, also producing sorghum, barley, oats, rye, millet and canary seeds. In the pampas region also cultivated: soy,sunflower, peanuts and flax, which are the most widely used oil. These products are centralized in: Formosa, Chaco y Tucuman
The horticultural production is locatedmainly in areas near large cities as Buenos Aires, Mendoza y Santiago; most common crops are: potato, garlic, onion, chile, tomato, carrot, squash, peppers.
Soy hasmoved in many areas of corn cultivation, owing to its high yield having a very high production for exportation, provinces where planting are: Santa Fe, Cordova y Buenos Aires.Coffee production is limited only to supply the needs of the country. The production of fruits is of considerable importance, the most important is the production ofcitrus, followed by pear, apple, quince, peach, plum and cherry. The best areas for cultivation are: Salta y Misiones.
In recent years increased the production ofbananas, walnuts and dates. The tropical region also offers others products like: mango, coconut, cocoa, snuff, melons and watermelons, although in a very small proportion.
