PEACE CONFERENCE IN PARIS (1919)

On 18 January 1919, either representing the victorious countries met at the called Paris conference, under the direction of the Committee of Four: U.S. President Wilson, the British Prime Minister Lloyd George, French Prime Minister Clemenceau and Orlando, the chief executive of Italian. They are the first three, however, the negotiations actually went to thedefeated countries were unable to attend.

On October 4, 1918, the Germans had asked for an armistice based on the proposals in the "Fourteen Points" of Wilson. The reality of the loss was, however, harder. The victorious countries arrived in Paris with different ideas and commitments, sometimes secret, acquired during the war.

Peace treaties
The victorious countries were signing peacetreaties with various each of the defeated nations. Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey were forced to sign a treaty in which they had no voice.

The Treaty of Versailles Clauses
1.-TERRITORIAL

1.- France recovered Alsace and Lorraine
2.-Eupen and Malmedy passed into the hands of Belgium
3.-The Polish Corridor (Posen and elsewhere) and the southern Upper Silesia are annexed to Polandnewborn. This meant territorial isolation from the rest of East Prussia.
4.- Danzig and Memel, Baltic German populations were declared free cities
5.- Denmark was annexed northern Schleswig-Holstein.
6.-The whole of Germany's territorial losses amounted to 76,000 square kilometers (13% of its territory), where 6.5 million people live (10% of its population)
7.-The Saar coalfield happens to beadministered by the League of Nations and economically exploited by France for 15 years
8.-Germany lost all its colonies, which are distributed as mandates from the League of Nations between the British Empire and France. Belgium and Japan annexed very small territories.

2.-MILITARY

1.-  Drastic limitation of the Navy (the bulk of the Navy war was seized and confined to the British base atScapa Flow) and the Army (100,000 troops, no tanks, planes, heavy artillery ...)
2.- Demilitarization of the Rhineland (western and range of 50 km. East of the Rhine)
3.- Temporary occupation of the west bank of the Rhine Allied troops would withdraw with staggered deadlines to conclude in 1935.

3.-REPAIRS WAR

1.-As head of a war started by his aggression, Germany was forced to payreparations or war reparations to the victors.
2.-Spa Conference (1920) would receive fixed percentage of total country: France 52%, UK 22%, Italy 10%, Belgium 8%
3.-At the London Conference (1920) sets the total amount of repairs: 140.000 million gold marks, a huge amount.

4.-OTHER CLAUSES
1.-Germany acknowledges its responsibility for the war and all damages that resulted. German aggression wasthe one that triggered the conflict.
2.-Prohibition of entry into the League of Nations.
3.-Prohibition of the Anschluss (union Germany and Austria)
4.-Establishment of the Covenant of the League of Nations as an annex to the Treaty.

The Treaty of Saint Germain, signed with Austria

1.- End of the Austro-Hungarian, born of his break new states such as Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia,which binds cessions of territory to Italy and Poland and Yugoslavia newborn.
2.- Payment of reparations.
3.-Limitations in the army.
4.-Prohibition of the Anschluss with Germany.

The Treaty of Trianon with Hungary

1.-End of the Austro-Hungarian born dee his break new states such as Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, which binds cessions of territory to Italy and Poland and Yugoslavianewborn.
2.-Reparations
3.-Limitations in the army
4.-Large Hungarian minorities (three million, one third of the total population) are outside the Hungarian state, Slovakia, Romania (Transylvania) and Yugoslavia.

The Treaty of Neuilly with Bulgaria

1.-Territorial losses to benefit Romania, Greece and Yugoslavia
2.-Reparations
3.-Limitations in the army
