The Thanksgiving Day (in English, Thanksgiving, literally thank) is a traditional celebration of the United States and Canada. In the United States is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November,although originally made ​​last Thursday. In Canada, meanwhile, is held the second Monday in October. On Thanksgiving Day, the most peculiarly American national holiday was first celebrated in 1621 by the settlers of Plymouth Colony. Thesesettlers, who were later called Pilgrims left England because they wanted to secede from the established church and worship God in their own way. After leaving England, the Pilgrims settled in Hollandin 1608.

Finally in 1620 they embarked on the "Mayflower" seeking freedom of worship in the New World. With all its original destination was Jamestown Colony, Virginia, a storm out of his route andarrived in November 1620 north of Plymouth, Massachusetts. The first winter was one of great hardship for the settlers, since more than half the colony died from starvation and disease.
