Australia is the largest island in the world. It is located in the South Pacific. It has been subjected to tectonic forces that have created the birth of hugemassive 100 million years ago.
Its area is 7,682,300 km2.
In the east, there is a long narrow band, the Great Dividing Range following the East Coast fromNorth to South. West of the mountains, the country is flat and arid. In these areas there are salt lakes and mysterious monoliths as Ayers Rock and the Olgasand mountains as the mountains of Mac Donnell.
Most of the Australian Outback includes rocky deserts.
The Top End of Australia, the Top End, is a region withmany tropical rain monsoons. The rain manifests as violent storms.
The West of the continent consists of a vast plain: Australian plateau.
The southern partconsists of a chain of mountains and fertile coastal strip, while in the central and northern parts of Western Australia, the plain flows directly into the sea.The rugged Kimberley region in the far north of the state has spectacular scenery.
Australia is among the countries with the world's biodiversity.
Itsfauna consists of mammals (especially marsupials), birds, reptiles and insects hundred.
Highlights include kangaroos, koalas, emus, platypus, Tasmanian Devil, thedingo, the cockatoos and cassowaries.
Among its flora highlights eucalyptus and acacia.
8% of Australia's surface is protected area, which include nationalparks. There are also national parks have been granted the World Heritage Site, as the Great Barrier Reef, the rainforests of Queensland and the Blue Mountains.
