The Controversy Between Autism and MMR vaccine
In the medical field, it is very common to have controversial issues or adverse consequences that a vaccine or any medication can bring to the patient. In this case, some scientists think that the MMR vaccine is the cause of the disease called "Autism." Autism is a disease that currently affects millions of children around the world; this ailmentis known as a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted repetitive behavior. According to statistics, the prevalence of Autism grows each year; as today 6 of every 1000 children in the world have to live with this sickness. Unfortunately, the main cause of this disease yet to be discovered, although some scientists and expertssay the vaccine (MMR), rubella, mumps, measles is responsible for this illness. Medical and health institutions claim that the MMR vaccine should be administered between 12 and 15 months (as first dose), to be aware of the diseases it prevents; but the dilemma is because some parents and scientists believe that this vaccine can cause a mutation for an active ingredient on it (thimerosal). Whilethis assumption has a true and a false reasoning, I believe that vaccinating children after the age of three is not the solution to avoid the growth of the autism in kids each year. We should support the idea of vaccinating with the MMR vaccine after three years of age will help prevent three different types of illness.
A1 The MMR vaccine is 100% safe because it does not produce any illness; onthe contrary it helps to evade three different types of sicknesses. To understand the main goal and foundation of a vaccine, a person, has to know what it is a vaccine is composed of. The International Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation states that the traditional vaccines contain either parts of microbes or whole microbes that have been killed or weakened so that they don’t cause disease (64).When the immune system of a person confronts these harmless versions of the germs, it quickly vanishes them from the body. In other words, vaccines trick the immune system of a person and teach their body important lessons about how to defeat its opponents. According to Gregory Poland M.D., professor and doctor in Mayo Clinic, the MMR vaccine contains weakened versions of live measles, mumps andrubella viruses, the vaccine works by triggering the immune system (the body’s natural defense against infection and illness) to produce antibodies against measles, mumps and rubella (869).  He argues that if a person comes into contact with one of these diseases, their immune system will recognize it and immediately produce the antibodies needed to fight it. Poland states that the MMR vaccine iscompletely secure because the germs that are introduced to the person (in this case a child) are completely dead, the only function that the body will go to develop is going to be to prepare the immune system and have it ready with the defenses it needs to fight these diseases.
C1 If the vaccine were 100% safe why does it produce adverse reactions? R1 “The adversereactions in the vaccines or in the medications is a common stuff in the medicine branch” explains Poland; But he also establishes that the real issue is that in the MMR vaccine has three separate vaccines, different side effects can occur at different times. He says that the side effects are usually mild, but my point is that it's important to remember that they're milder than the potentialcomplications of measles, mumps and rubella. According with Poland the MMR vaccine can include some side effects like: developing a mild form of measles that lasts for two to three days, developing a mild form of mumps that lasts for a day or two, and in rare cases, a small rash of bruise-like spots may appear a number of weeks after the injection, but those of these symptoms are totally normal to all...
