Course Name: BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SECONDARY) - HOME ECONOMICS/DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY SPECIALISATION

GENERAL INFORMATION A Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in Home Economics/Design and Technology prepares teachers to addressmajor emphases of NSW secondary school syllabuses in the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) Key Learning Area (KLA) and Community and Family Studies in the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) KLA. WHERE IT COULD TAKE YOU This course enables graduate teachers to be employed by state and private secondary schools across Australia and New Zealand. Our graduates have also beenemployed within the community health education sector, food product development, quality control and as trainers within the food industry. Home Economics/Design and Technology provides the opportunity to explore in a very practical way areas such as: • • • • • • Innovation and Sustainability in Built Environments Food Technology, Nutrition and Health Textiles Technology, Clothing and FashionDesign Computer Generated Design Workshop Skill Development and Safety Planning Wood, Metal, Model-making and Mixed Material Technologies • Design Project Planning and Implementation • Families, People and Communities • Health and Wellbeing COURSE STRUCTURE SUMMARY

Undergraduate Lake Macquarie Campus Full-time or part-time on campus Four years full-time (or part-time equivalent)

Direct Entry: • ATAR of 63.00+ (or equivalent eg.OP of 17 or less). • HSC Chemistry (or equivalent) OR February Chemistry Bridging Course (before semester 3 commences) is recommended. Alternative Entry: Students with an ATAR below 63.00 (orequivalent) may still be able to gain entry into this degree on a conditional basis. Previous work experience and educational qualifications will also be considered for each student upon application.
