Award and prizes are given for excellence in various fields. Do these awards and prizes serve a useful purpose? Use specific reasons and examples tosupport your answer.
The excellence must be admired, actually this is the real purpose of the awards or prizes.
A purpose of the awards and prizes is to motivate thepeople to keep doing the things they are doing well, because it cause a benefit for someone, for example a soccer player helps his team to win, the people toentertain them and sometimes the poor people making donations or a policeman who helps more directly the people, protecting them.
The people good in something always lookfor something better, for example a soldier wants to be an officer, that promotion would be a kind of award. Another kind of award is the admiration, actually is themost common kind of award, and the most useful, because when you are admired, you became famous and when you are famous, the important people will ask for you tomake something for them (in the thing you are good), for example Juanes was a kid with apparently no chance to be the person he is today, but with effort and awardsand prizes he became a famous person, now he has been called for important events around the world like the soccer world cup.
Obviously there are cases which theawards are given to bad people, but in that case are by the same reason, because the actions of bad people cause a benefit for someone, in that case their criminalorganization.
Thus, these purposes are so useful for all of us because the awards may help motivating their winners to keep doing good things, as I said before.
