There are a lot of languages spoken throughout the world. Every person knows at least one language, which helearns in his childhood. Being bilingual means to have the knowledge of two or more languages, and many people have the capacity to do this. I am going to talk about the benefits that being bilingual canoffer to someone’s life such as: communicate to other people, benefits in working life, and also allows you develop different skills.
Being bilingual offers a wider choice of jobs. This is whybilinguals can get career opportunities in many fields, like transport, administration, secretarial work, public relations, marketing, law, teaching sectors, between others. All this, because the knowledgeof several languages brings many benefits like the ones exposed previously.
Moreover, when you know more than one language you have the opportunity to communicate with other people from othercountries. Also it gives a deeper knowledge of different ideas and traditions, and it helps improve the ways of thinking and behaving. For instance, bilingual persons do not face difficulties incommunication while they are in a foreign country.
According to a study published in the journal Child Development, children who grow up learning two languages at once have better understanding of language.However, not only the children have benefits from learning new languages. In the book ‘‘Saving your Brain’’ Dr. Jeff Victoroff described the benefits of learning a new language, he describes it as awonderful exercise for the brain.
Summarizing, I can conclude that being bilingual can bring you a lot of benefits for your life. For example if you travel to an English speaking country, you cancommunicate with people there.
