The Benefits of yoga
Yoga is an ancient Eastern discipline, specifically from India, with a history of more than 2000 years. The word yoga comes from the root "yuj" which means union, and yogaworks the union of the body, mind, and emotional being. For years I have been very curious about the practice of yoga and all the famous hype that comes along with practicing it, and I have decided toresearch what benefits will yoga bring to me if I start incorporating it into my daily life.
Yoga postures performed safely help you stretch your muscles freeing the lactic acid that accumulates thebody to use muscles causing stiffness, stress, pain and fatigue. Furthermore, yoga increases the range of motion in the joints, and you can also increase joint lubrication. The result is a feeling oflightness and fluidity throughout the body. Yoga stretches not only your muscles but also all of the soft tissues of the body including ligaments, tendons and fascia sheath that surround themuscles.
No matter your level of fitness, practicing yoga will allow you to get start gaining all these benefits in no time. In one study, participants came to improve their flexibility up to 35% afteronly eight weeks of yoga. The biggest gains were seen in shoulder flexibility and trunk. Some studies also suggest that yoga may have a positive effect on learning and memory.
Some of the benefitsof yoga can be difficult to study scientifically. For example, it is said that yoga increases spiritual awareness, and some yoga practitioners even claim that yoga helps improve marital relationshipsand relationships at work. I believe the only way to be sure of all that yoga can do for your health is to try it for yourself.
