“Time and again, foul things attacked me,
lurking and stalking, but I lashed out,

over their banquet at the bottom of the sea.Instead in the morning, mangled and sleeping

Traducción:
Una y otra vez repugnantes criaturas me atacaron,
merodeaban y acechaban pero arremetí contra ellas
devolviéndoles los golpes con mi espada.
Mi carne no iba a servirles de festín,
no iba a haber monstruosmordisqueando y relamiéndose
por el banquete en el fondo del mar.
En su lugar, por la mañana, destrozados y durmiendo
el sueño de la espada, flotaban desparramados
como restos del océano. En adelante, los marinos
estarán a salvo, se acabaron para siempre
los ataques en las profundidades del mar.
Surgió la luz por el este,
resplandeciente garantía de Dios, y las olas
se calmaron. Pude divisarpromontorios y
acantilados batidos por las olas. Con frecuencia,
por su indomable valor,
el destino perdona la vida del hombre
que aún no ha marcado.
Como quiera que fuera, mi espada había matado
A nueve monstruos marinos. De tales peligros nocturnos
y tan duros trances, jamás he oído,
como tampoco de un hombre más desolado entre olas envolventes.
Pero aún agotado como estaba, sobreviví,salí victorioso con vida. El océano me levantó
y me depositó en la orilla y arribé a salvo
a la costa de Finlandia
