Beowulf And La Morte d'Arthur
Both stories tell us about a hero, which had many fights and had to strugglewith difficult issues. It also tells us about some important facts in the history of England. As many stories, these two had fictitious actions, just like some characters and situations in it.
One ofthe differences between these two stories is the time in which happened. Beowulf takes place between the 8th and the early 11th centuries, although there is not an exact date for this story. Le Morted’Arthur was first published in 1485 by William Caxton.
Another difference between both stories is the gender. Beowulf is an epic poem told in historical perspective, a story of epic events and ofgreat people with a heroic past. Le Morte d’Arthur is a fictitious prose narrative, it also can be considered as a novel.
Beowulf tells the story of a hero, from the Geats, who travels greatdistances to prove his strength at impossible odds against supernatural demons and beasts. Le Morte d’Arthur tells the life and death of King Arthur. Both stories where carried by oral tradition before theywere written.
In Beowulf, the story of a great hero, the main character had all the characteristics that a hero should have in that period of time. On La Morte d’Arthur we also found that the maincharacter is a hero, King Arthur. Both stories tell the life of a hero, but on La Morte d’Arthur we also find religious issues.
Le Morte d’Arthur is the first true novel written in English, andBeowulf is cited as one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature. We can truly say that both stories played a big role in literature because of its importance.
