In the 1920s the strength of America was generated by its economic power. In that decade, America became the wealthiest country in the world. In the good timeseverybody seemed to have a reasonably well paid job and everybody seemed to have a lot of cash to spend. The 1920s is also known as the roaring twenties or the Jazz Age, it was a boomingperiod of rapid economic expansion. The reasons of this booming economy was the growth of automobile Industry, high levels of consumers’ confidence, improvements in technology, andlabor productivity (mass production).
Stock: A capital stock is the amount of money paid or invested by the founders of a business. The capital stock is divided in to multipleshares. The total of these shares is stated at the time the business is formed. So these shares have a minimum value, and this value can increase due to the growth of the company,the money that is invested in it and also the money that it produces.
As the people started to get better jobs, better salaries, income taxes were reduced, people started to havemore money available to send and they saw in the stock market an easy way to make money, this conducted to a huge increase of the stock market performance (10 times of itsoriginal value). In October 1929 some companies lower profits than expected. This was the trigger for what was called the Wall Street Crash.
Big stick policy:
Big stick policy was theway Theodore Roosevelt conducted USA diplomacy between 1901-1909. He summarized this doctrine with an old African proverb that is: “speak softly and carry a big stick, and you willgo far.” That is to say that US had to prevent war, but also made a show of strength to other nations. So this makes the rest of the world to have respect for the military of US.
