Her mother, KayFaust, works for an airline, and his father, Glenn Tatum, serves on the construction sector. He has a sister named Paige. The actor has French ancestry, Scottish and NativeAmerican. When he was six his family moved to Mississippi and grew up in a rural area-bayou-estuaries of the Mississippi River.
From an early age was athletic,playing football, soccer, baseball and practiced martial arts, but says that "girls were always the biggest distraction in school." During his childhood he practiced KungFu of the Five Ancestors teacher training under the Chee Kim Thong. Most of his adolescence was spent in Tampa, Florida, where he entered high school Gaither HighSchool and a year later he enrolled at Tampa Catholic High School. In 1998 he graduated from high school and was voted by his peers as the most athletic. After beinggranted an athletic scholarship, he joined the Institute Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia, but lost interest and dropped out of school. He returned backto Tampa where he held all sorts of jobs. According to U.S. Weekly, Tatum worked as a striptease dancer in a nightclub, under the name Chan Crawford. In 2010, during aninterview to an Australian newspaper, said he would like to make a film about his experiences as a striptease dancer.
