Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the great novelist of Spanish literature, was probably born on September 29, 1547 in Alcala de Henares.
He resided in Valladolid, where he made his first studies. For transfers of his family, continued in Madrid and Seville, and back in Madrid, studied with Juan Lopez de Hoyos and began (1568) to write poetry.
Hemoved to Italy, and in 1570 he joined the Spanish army, under the command of Don Juan of Austria.
In 1571, was wounded at the battle of Lepanto, in the chest and in the left hand, which was rendered inoperable, and for which he was definitively the nickname "El Manco de Lepanto".
In journey to Spain, galley traveling was attacked by the Turks, near Marseille, and Cervantes was captive in Algiersin 1575, and spent five years there.
After this eventful period, he met Ana Franca, with whom he had his daughter Isabel de Saavedra in 1584.
He retired from the arms and settled in Madrid, there he married Catalina de Salazar in 1584, and devoted himself to literature.
He published "La Galatea" in 1585 and many comedies, most of which have been lost, except "The Siege of Numancia" and"Treatment of Algiers".
After some previous conflicts with justice, administrative malfeasance proceeds due to the bankruptcy of a banker who had committed, was arrested in Seville in 1597. There is thought that developed the first part of "The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha", published in 1605, the known work was so successful that it did five editions in its first year.
This first part wasread by certain circles in manuscript until the printed edition appeared.
The second part was published in 1615, after a false "Quixote Apocrypha" was released, authored by someone under the pseudonym of Alfonso Fernández de Avellaneda.
Meanwhile, in 1609, entered the Congregation of the Slaves of the Blessed Sacrament and in 1613 published his "Exemplary Novels", several of which the readerwill read on this site.
In 1614 he wrote a long literary work in verse: "Journey to Parnassus."
 In 1615, along with the second part of his masterpiece, published "Eight Comedies and Eight Interludes", and in 1616, the novel "The Works of Persiles and Segismunda".
He died in the same year, the April 22, 1616 in Madrid.
