The Beatles
Lennon formed The Beatles with members of his first band, the Quarrymen. He first met Paul McCartney at their second concert, held in Woolton on 6 July at the St.Peter's Church garden fête, after which McCartney joined the band. five years later. George Harrison joined the band as lead guitarist and Ringo Starr on drums. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr became "The Beatles". The Beatles toured the world and were very successful. They made very good albums as Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, Help!, The White Album and Let It Be. They Made films likeYellow Submarine and in 1970 they separated.
Yoko Ono's influence in his life
John Lennon and Yoko Ono met in November 1996. From the beginning, the relationship was bizarre. John and Yoko were burnt out from years of hard drugs, overwork, emotional breakdowns, quack cures, and bizarre diets, to say nothing of the effects of living constantly in the glare of the mass media. During Lennon'slast two years in The Beatles, he and Ono began public protests against the Vietnam War. They were married in Gibraltar on 20 March 1969, and spent their honeymoon in Amsterdam campaigning with a week-long Bed-In for peace. They planned another Bed-In in the United States, but were denied entry, so held one instead at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, where they recorded "Give Peace a Chance".In one of his last interviews Lennon said that until he met Ono, he had never questioned his chauvinistic attitude to women. The Beatle’s song "Getting Better", he said, told his own story: "All that I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved' was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically—any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't expressmyself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace".
