Elvis Presley
Elvis was one of the most remarkable American singers of the 50’s decade. He was born on 1935 in Tupelo, United states. He was drafted to work by his family since he was a childbecause of their bad economy. When he was eleven he insisted to have a guitar and his parents gave him one.
When he was 13 his family and he moved to Memphis, a place of high musical activity and when hewas 19, a producer called Sam Phillips, owner of sun records, gave him a chance to record two of o his first songs, “That’s all right” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky”. This event allowed him to have aradio program.
In 1955 his popularity increased, he signed a contract with the RCA label. In addition, the theme “heartbreak hotel” let him to increase his career so he sold 300 000 copies in 3 weeks.Moreover he recorded his first L.P. called “Elvis Presley” that reached one million copies sold. He started appearing in T.V. and he made a record in the media history. He was criticized because ofhis hip movement as well as in 1956 his first film called “love me tender” was opened.
In short Elvis was a musical and fashion icon of the XX century who has lots of fans and who introduced rockand roll and made it a trend, even though he finished with his life by the wrong way being addicted to drugs and causing a heart attack.
Jonas Salk
Jonas is a known scientist researcher of thefifties owing to the fact that he created and developed a vaccine for the cure of poliomyelitis. He was born on 1914, in New York City. His parents were of immigrates families so they didn´t have a goodeducation.
He attended to a secondary for gifted children as well as when he has sixteen, he joined to the medicine faculty at the University of New York.
Apart from, he got the first result ofthe cure of polio in 1952. After proving it with animals and some infected children, he announced his vaccine as successful in 1955 and he appeared in T.V. with the president Eisenhower.
