Francisco Amighetti

Francisco Amighetti was born on June 1, 1907, in San Jose, Costa Rica. As his name suggests, his family was of Italian descent. Amighetti attended the main high school for boys in San Jose called the Liceo de Costa Rica. Here, his artistic talent became apparent, and his Art teachers encouraged him to enroll in the Academia de Bellas Artes. In this institute, which had as adirector a famous Spanish painter called Tomas Povedano, he received drawing and painting lessons which perfected his technique. During these early years of artistic formation, Amighetti began to gain recognition through his cartoons that were published in the famous artistic magazine- “Repertorio Americano”.
At 92 years of age, Don Francisco Amighetti is one of the most prolific artists inCosta Rican history. His seventy years of creation include more than 500 works, which, as I mentioned previously, range from Surrealist paintings to austere and primitive xylographs.

Pablo Picasso
Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973) was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, andsculptor. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.

Jorge Jiménez Martínez
Jorge Jiménez Martínez, whose art-name is Deredia, was born on 4th October 1954in Heredia, Costa Rica.  He started sculpting in the seventies creating pieces already bearing the signs and characteristics of what would become a constant throughout his successive works: the development of organic shapes modified by their environment, the force of gravity and growth; and the influence of pre-Columbian art.  In 1976 at 22 years old, a study grant brought him to Italy where hesettled and from here started to travel around Europe, coming into contact with the main artistic movements of the continent.
In forty years of work, Deredia has created monumental pieces for museums, external environments and public institutions in eleven different countries in Europe, America and Asia. He has held 34 personal exhibitions and over 100 collective exhibitions.

Mary CassattAmerican painter
1844 - 1926
Known for her perceptive depictions of women and children, Mary Cassatt was one of the few American artists active in the nineteenth-century French avant-garde.
Born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania to a prominent Pittsburgh family, she traveled extensively through Europe with her parents and siblings while a child.
Between 1860 and 1864 she attended thePennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. At the age of twenty-two Cassatt went abroad, studying old master paintings in European museums. In Paris, she studied with prominent academic painters and independently at the Louvre. Returning to the United States for a short period, Cassatt went back to Europe in 1871, spending her time painting and copying the old masters in museums in Italy, Spain,and Belgium.
Salvador Dalí
In the Catalan town of Figueras, near Barcelona, Salvador Dalí was born on May 11, 1904. His father, a respected notary, his mother, and a younger sister encouraged his early interest in art; a room in the family home was the young artist's first studio. In 1921 Dalí enrolled at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. There he joined an avant-gardecircle of students that included film-maker Luis Bunuel and poet-dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca. Although Dalí excelled in his academic pursuits, his eccentric dress and behavior and his outspoken political conservatism ultimately resulted in his expulsion from school.
