The Field of Waterloo
I.
Fair Brussels, thou art far behind,
Though, lingering on the morning wind,
  We yet may hear the hour
Pealed over orchard and canal,
With voice prolonged and measured fall,
  From proud St. Michael's tower;
Thy wood, dark Soignies, holds us now,
Where the tall beeches' glossy bough
  For many a leaguearound,
With birch and darksome oak between,
Spreads deep and far a pathless screen,
  Of tangled forest ground.
Stems planted close by stems defy
The adventurous foot--the curious eye
  For access seeks in vain;
And the brown tapestry of leaves,
Strewed on the blighted ground, receives
  Nor sun, nor air, nor rain.
No opening glade dawns on our way,
No streamlet, glancing to the ray,  Our woodland path has crossed;
And the straight causeway which we tread
Prolongs a line of dull arcade,
Unvarying through the unvaried shade
  Until in distance lost.
II.
A brighter, livelier scene succeeds;
In groups the scattering wood recedes,
Hedge-rows, and huts, and sunny meads,
  And corn-fields glance between;
The peasant, at his labour blithe,
Plies the hooked staff andshortened scythe:-
  But when these ears were green,
Placed close within destruction's scope,
Full little was that rustic's hope
  Their ripening to have seen!
And, lo, a hamlet and its fane:-
Let not the gazer with disdain
  Their architecture view;
For yonder rude ungraceful shrine,
And disproportioned spire, are thine,
  Immortal WATERLOO!

El campo de WaterlooFeria de Bruselas, tú eres muy vieja,
Sin embargo, que subsisten en el viento de la mañana,
Nosotros todavía podemos oír la hora
Pelados en huerto y el canal,
Con voz prolongada y se midiendo la caída,
Desde la torre altiva de San Miguel;
Tú madera, Soignies oscuridad, nos mantiene ahora,
Cuando la rama altas hayas 'brillante
Para muchos una liga alrededor,
Con el abedul y el robleoscuro entre,
Los diferenciales de profundidad y lejos de una pantalla sin caminos,
Del suelo del bosque enmarañado.
Los tallos plantados cerca de los tallos desafían
El pie de aventura - los ojos curiosos
Para acceder busca en vano;
Y la tapicería marrón de las hojas,
Sembrado en el suelo arruinado, recibe
Ni el sol, ni aire, ni la lluvia.
No claro apertura amanece en el camino,
No hayarroyo, mirando a los rayos,
Nuestro sendero en el bosque ha cruzado;
Y la calzada recta que pisamos
Prolonga la línea de la arcada sordo,
Invariable a través de la sombra sin variación
Hasta que en la distancia perdida.
II
Una brillante, escena animada tiene éxito;
 En los grupos de la madera se alejan de la dispersión,
Setos, y refugios, y prados soleados,
Y los campos de maíz y miradaentre;
El campesino, en su alegre del trabajo,
Pies el personal enganchado y la guadaña reducido:
Pero cuando estas orejas eran verdes,
Situado cerca dentro del ámbito de la destrucción, el
Lleno poco la esperanza de que los rústicos
Su maduración haber visto
Y he aquí, una aldea y sys Fané:
No permitas que el contemplador con desdén
Su arquitectura de vista;
Por aquel santuario sin graciagrosero,
Y desproporcionado aguja, son tuyos,
WATERLOO Inmortal!

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Closebosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,...
