Survival of living things in a Biome------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADAPTATION |
Plants and animals must adapt to survive in a particular biome.
In a desert, for example, plants and animals need to beable to survive:
EXTREME TEMPERATURES VERY DRY CLIMATE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order for animals tosurvive they need to gain energy by eating other living things in the biome. This feeding relationship is called a food chain
FEEDING RELATIONSHIPS |
First level of a food chain is thePRODUCER: A plant that uses the energy from the sun to produce its own food |
The producers are eaten by the PRIMARY CONSUMERS like mice, zebras, horses, cows and other herbivores. This is the secondlevel of the food chain. |
The third level of the food chain is made up of the SECONDARY CONSUMERS which are the carnivores and omnivores like eagles, lions, dogs or bears which eat primaryconsumers. |
Human beings are at the top of the food chain |

HUMANS AND BIOMES
* Humans, like allanimals, perceive what is going on around them.
* Human beings live in a biome depending on the climatic and geographic conditions and the resources found in the biome.
* Bodies of water allowhumans to fish or to irrigate plants and are important for transportation.
* Forests provide trees that can be used in construction or other industries such as paper making.
* Humans may huntanimals in the biome for food or for their skins.
