Bionics

A car accident, some disease or just some unfortunate situations in life remove some people from what others take for granted. Mutilation is a process that is used in the medical field, fortunately, it has lost its frequency. But when that happens, the only option to continue with what use to be their life is to use prosthesis. the basic idea of this is to recreate the lost memberwith some material, this technique has been used for a long time, replacing with wood as a peg leg or even the modern ones with some more specific material for recreate almost perfectly the shape of a the human body. But now the Scientifics are working in new techniques to try not only recreate the shape, they are trying to recreate all the movements and even the feeling almost as they wereconnecting the new device with the body to make it work at the command of the brain.
The name of it is Bionics “Bi-on-ics: etymology: from bi (as in “life”) + onics (as in “electronics”); the study of mechanical systems that function like living organisms or parts of living organisms” in other wrds bionics is replay biological parts for artificial ones . but, How is this possible? How far are we ofget to that technological level? And how this can help us?.
The Scientifics are working in basically find artificial ways to reproduce the normal function of one at the time different parts of the body as the arms, legs, eyes, ears, voice; or even the neural system to help people with mayor mobility problems like quadriplegic.
“Eric Schremp, who has been a quadriplegic since he shattered hisneck during a swimming pool dive in 1992, now has an electronic device under his skin that lets him move his fingers to grip a fork. Jo Ann Lewis, a blind woman, can see the shapes of trees with the help of a tiny camera that communicates with her optic nerve. And Tammy Kenny can speak to her 18-month-old son, Aiden, and he can reply, because the boy, born deaf, has 22 electrodes inside his earthat change sounds picked up by a microphone into signals his auditory nerve can understand”.

But even if this can be show as a huge possibility and the normal believe that the human can do wherever they want to do, make the people thought that this can go really far, but it is not working like that. “The work is extremely delicate, a series of trials filled with many errors. As scientists havelearned that it's possible to link machine and mind, they have also learned how difficult it is to maintain that connection”.
Right now experiment about bionics are being developed, the United States army is trying to create a bionic arm they are working in replicate all the normal functions of an arm and hand. The idea is that wearing an electrode-studded sleeve over the stump, it will passsignals from the residual muscles to the computer. Pattern-recognition software interprets those commands to move a virtual hand through a series of pre-programmed grasps. This is not the only one, in Australia some investigators are working to make the idea of the bionic eye a reality:
Researchers at Bionic Vision Australia (BVA) have produced a prototype version of a bionic eye implant that couldbe ready to start restoring rudimentary vision to blind people as soon as 2013. The system consists of a pair of glasses with a camera built in, a processor that fits in your pocket, and an ocular implant that sits against the retina at the back of the eye and electronically stimulates the retinal neurons that send visual information to the brain. The resulting visual picture is blocky andlow-res at this point, but the technology is bound to improve, and even in its current form it's going to be a major life-changer for those with no vision at all. And the future potential - even for sighted people - is fascinating.
Commonly the idea of bionics sounds new, and thinking about how many things rest for discover in this field, is hard not to think of it in that way, but in some aspects...
