Funeral services announced
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Adolfo Cuellar, Martin Galindo, Ismael Cuellar, Armando Cuellar, Esteban Cuellar, and Ariel Cuellar. Arrangements were under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home, Brad Jackson, Director. Carol Pier of Nash, Tx.; grandchildren, Anna Gonzalez, Cristina andCatherine Gura and Brian, Elizabeth, and Nicholas Hernandez; brothers, Jose Hernandez and wife Esperanza, Ernesto Hernandez both of Laredo; sisters, Hortencia Chavez and husband Benigno of San Antonio, Herminia Treviño and husband Genovevo, Alicia Mora, sister-in-law, Otila Acevedo and husband Humberto, all of Laredo, also numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to being a loving son, brother,husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he was a senior Master Sergeant, USAF for 23 years and U.S. Customs Inspector for 22 years retiring a total of 45 years of Federal service. He served in the China, Central Burma, and India Campaigns, was a member of the 40th Bomb group, 20th Air Force (B-29’s) during WWII, was a member of the China BurmaIndia Veterans Assn., Alamo City Basha, lifetime member ofthe Knights of Columbus, Air Force Assn., and the American Legion. The family would like to thank Dr.’s J.J. DeLeon, J. Marotta, Manuel Garcia, Basil Dabas, the Baptist Health System, Santa Rosa Hospice and all his Family and friends for the loving prayers and thoughts. Those who wish may make memorial Contributions to the Santa Rosa Hospice. Visitation was held Saturday June 20, 1998 from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapel North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. with a rosary service Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with interment and full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Emma Acherson Emma Acherson, 93, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 1998 inLaredo. She was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico and lived in Laredo most of her life. Se is preceded in death by her husband, William Wilson Acherson. The family of Mrs. Emma Acherson respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Laredo Food Bank or to the 1st Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her niece Miriam Gonzalez Guerth (Ken) Lloyd-Jones of West Hartford,Conneticut; nephews Enrique (Maggie) Gonzalez Guerth of Richerdson, Texas and Miguel (Tita) Gonzalez Guerth of Austin. One greatnephew, two greatnieces and many friends. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 1998 in the Hernandez-Lopez and Sons Northside Chapels. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. with Pastor Dale Youngs of 1st Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will thenfollow in the Laredo City Cemetery. Murder suspect found through his rose tattoo
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A decade after a bizarre slaying in Saginaw, authorities tracked down and arrested a 51-year-old drifter living in the Nevada desert. They knew him byhis rose tattoo. Robert William Greer Jr. was arrested in April at Lake Meade, a barren, torrid area just outside the city where he had lived for 63 days, eating out of trash cans, visiting with campers and fishing. “He had been living underneath a large bush,” said Sgt. Ted Snodgrass of the Fugitive Detail, a division of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Greer remains in the TarrantCounty Jail, in lieu of $100,000 bond. He’s charged in the Feb. 3, 1988 murder of John F. Dobbs in his suburban Saginaw apartment. Dobbs, 73, had been strangled with a telephone cord and a leather belt, and a threatening message about homosexuality was left in hydrocortisone cream on a bathroom mirror, police said.
