De hel volgens Dante
Dante Alighieri, geboren in Florence, Italië in 1265; was dichter, schrijver en bemoeide zich ook met politiek. Hij werd bekend door zijn werk: De goddelijke komedie.
Dit werk is een van de grote klassiekers van de westerse literatuur .De goddelijke komedie (of zijn originele tittel: La divina comedia) is een heel lang gedicht dat in drie verschillende delen isgeschreven. Die drie delen zijn “De Hel”, “het Vagevuur” en “het Paradijs”.
De inhoud van “de Hel” van Dante

Dante's Inferno, widely hailed as one of the great classics of Western literature, details Dante's journey through the nine circles of Hell. The voyage begins during Easter week in the year 1300, the descent through Hell starting on Good Friday. After meeting his guide, the eminentRoman poet Virgil, in a mythical dark wood, the two poets begin their descent through a baleful world of doleful shades, horrifying tortures, and unending lamentation.

Durante (Dante) degli Alighieri (Florence, tussen 14 mei en 13 juni 1265 – Ravenna, 13/14 september 1321) was een Italiaanse dichter, schrijver en kortstondig politicus. Zijn voornaamste werk staat bekend als La divina commedia (Vertaling De goddelijke komedie). Het is een lang gedicht in drie delen over een reis van de Hel(Inferno), door het Vagevuur (Purgatorio) naar het Paradijs (Paradiso) en wordt beschouwd als een hoogtepunt van de wereldliteratuur.

Eerste zang
1 Juist midden op de reistocht van ons leven (op het midden begint de weg terug naar de geestelijke wereld: thuis)
zag ik mij in een donker woud verloren, (hij was verstrikt geraakt in dit tijdelijke bestaan)
daar ik van 't goede pad was afgeweken,(hij was zichzelf niet meer, niet meer op het geestelijke gericht)
4 Helaas, hoe 't was, dat woud, valt zwaar te zeggen:
zó wild was 't en zó woest, zó dicht en donker,
dat de angsten nog herleven bij 't herdenken.
7 Ja, zelfs de dood kan haast niet erger wezen.
Maar om van 't heil dat ik daar vond te spreken, (alleen door het duister te ervaren, kan worden begrepen wat het licht is)
zal 'k ookverhalen, wat ik eerst aanschouwde.

10 Vaag heugt mij maar, hoe ik er binnendoolde:
zó had de slaap mij in dat uur vermeesterd, (hij was in een toestand van geestelijke onbewustheid terechtgekomen)
toen ik de ware weg de rug toekeerde. (toen ik niet meer God in gedachten hield)
13 Maar toen ik bij een heuvel was gekomen, ('heuvel': geestelijke groei; de berg Golgotha, de berg Thabor)...
