Comprension del pasaje
1. Why does Dickens call the November weather “implacable”?

He uses the word implacable because it hasthe meaning of “justice”.

2. Why would it not be wonderful to meet a Megalosaurus “waddling up”?

He is using a comparison with a biblical reference, related with THE FLOOD which meansthat it is a exaggeration, a hyperbolic comparison. Biblical and scientific reference. It’s comparison London with The Flood, but logically for much it rains it’s impossible to rain as in theFlood.

3. What is the mental and physical state of the foot passengers like?
People are ill-tempered; people are like the weather, so strong.

4. Why do you imagine the “ancient Greenwichpersioners” are “wheezing by the firesides of their wards”?

The fog is so intense that it goes inside the mouth of the people so that they cannot breathe. It’s an exaggeration, with thepersonification of the word “fog”.

5. In what way does Dickens draw a comparison between the “Gas and the Sun”?

The gas is in the city and the sun is in the countryside and the fields. So it iscomparing the city and the countryside.

6. Where does the weather always seem to be at its worst?
In the city, and in particular in Temple Bar.

7. How does Dickens describe TempleBar?
It is describes as headed and old. Not appropriate to modern times.

8. Who sits in the most sinful place of London at the very heart of the fog? Explain this comparison between justiceand fog.

9. In the last paragraph Dickens compares this scene of the fog, mud and mire with the High Court of Chancery. What is the general impression one is leftwith after reading this last paragraph?
