INTRODUCTION This Hydraulic Pump and Motor Reference Guide is designed to assist dealers with their repair options programs. Preparing repair optionsby classification rather than by group reduces the number of repair options which need to be priced. Pumps and motors tend to be designed and manufactured in discreet sizes. Therefore, classifications for pumps and motors can be assigned with reasonable assurance that the consists within each classification will have few and minor variations. For example, a range of flows (displacements) for anentire series of vane type pumps can be achieved by simply changing the profile ground into the cam ring. No other parts within the vane pump cartridge change. A similar situation exists for gear and piston type pumps and motors. Gear pumps and motors within a classification have the same pitch diameter and tooth profile. The displacement is increased or decreased by lengthening or shortening thegear tooth. Piston pumps and motors usually have the same rotating groups within a classification. Variations are achieved by adjustments to swashplate angles and controls. This guide does not include power train pumps and motors, or track motors and rotating groups in the HPCU of the Cat Hydrostatic Track Type Loaders.
