It is a romantic fiction genre, written by award-winning author John Green. It was mainly set in Indiana but, has various settings as it goes by, at the beginning themain characters met in a group session for cancer’s patients and later Gus and Hazel went to Netherlands. This book is based in a story of kids with cancer and their lives while fighting cancer. Thestory follows the main character, which is Hazel Grace Lancaster as she battles cancer. Not only is Hazel trying to live the normal life of a 16-yers-old girl, but she is also struggling with what will itbe like for her parents after she dies. While Hazel attends a church support group for cancer survivors, she meets a boy that is one year older than her, which is Augustus Waters, who later becomesher boyfriend. While Augustus had a type of cancer that causes him to lose his leg and wear a prosthetic, it also has a survival rate that is much higher than Hazel’s. From the first day that Hazelmeets Augustus, the two were practically inseparable. The base of their relationship ends up being Hazel’s favorite book: An Imperial Affliction. She requires Augustus to read it and in turn, he requiresher to read the book that is the basis of his favorite video game. Hazel relates to the character in her favorite book, Anna, because Anna has a rare blood cancer. Augustus and Hazel bond over thebook because both of them have a burning desire to find out how the story ends because the author stops the book before providing conclusion on what happens to each of the characters. Augustus joinsHazel’s pursuit of the book’s author, Peter Van Houten, to provide the answer that they need. Augustus even uses a wish foundation to fly him and Hazel to Amsterdam, where the author lives, to talk withhim in person.
