Book Report
Title: Weep not, child.
Author: Ngugi Wa Thiong’
Setting: Kenya, Africa.

Characters:
1. Njoroge: The main characteristic in the story. He is Ngotho´s youngest son by his wife, Nyokabi. He thinks the best action a man can do is going to the school, because there he can gets knowledge and he will be able to help Kenya and finish the white’s abuses. He fell in love withMwihaki (Jacobo’s daughter).
2. Ngotho: He is the head of the family in this story. Ngotho works for Mr. Howland the land that belong to his father, actually that’s the reason for Ngotho to work there, because he thinks one day the land will back to his sons. Ngotho start a strike, challenging Jacobo.
3. Boro: Ngotho´s eldest son by his first wife. Boro fought for the British in the Second WorldWar, he came back from the war a bitter and angry man. He left his family to look for work in Nairobi. Boro doesn´t respect his father because Ngotho works the land once belong to the family.
4. Kori. Boro´s brother, he left his home to find work in Nairobi.
5. Kamau. Njeri´s youngest son. He has stayed at home and he has learned carpentry. His wages helps to support the family andNjoroge´s school.
6. Jacobo. He has done a lot of money through the work of black people, he is on a high position because he is related with the white group, Mr. Howlands uses Jacobo in his fight against the black people, Jacobo wants to take revenge against Ngotho for starts the strike and called him traitor.
7. Mwihaki. Jacobo´s daughter. She makes friends with Njoroge and fall in love withhim. Mwihaki is not agreeing whit his father, but any way she has to respect his decisions.
8. Mr. Howlands. He´s a white man, the only one mention in the story, he only cares for the lands he received when he arrived to Kenya.
Main events in the plot
Africa is dominated by British Colony, and all the black people were banished from them lands, it cause a great conflict between whites andblacks. Black people had to stay clear of the problem because they were treated, or putted in jail, any way the feeling of freedom increase more and more through the pass of the years related in the story.
Conflict faced by characters.
Some men were afraid by the arms which white people had, or the methods used by white to torture them, but each time the conditions of living starts to get worst andthe only thing the population was waiting for was to follow a leader or start the first strike. In all this process Njoroge is growing up and he has to adapt himself to accept his reality and try to change it.
Solution to the conflict
For a period of time people was thinking everything will change just because they trust in God and in education, but passing the time, people start to takeactions against the government, they were conscious and then they knew anything couldn´t change without effort and cleverness, the freedom they wanted wasn´t easy because of white resistance.
All the movement starts with the first strike, initiated by Ngotho, he always was shy and pacific but that day he thought about all the injustices made by whites, and he realized that the change wouldn´t appearif the blacks were dominated, so he called to the population to fight against the system. Suddenly he was afraid and he got confused, and the strike didn´t have success.
Any way it made a change in the black´s mind.
Njoroge since he was a boy thought that education was the only way to win the battle, but things weren´t as he expect and he had to leave the school after his father was dead and hisbrothers were in jail. Njoroge´s reasons for exists were: education and Mwihaki. So hoping he could reach at least the love, he asked to Mwihaki go out of Kenya, look for another country, very far and start a new happy life, but Mwihaki explained him, she didn´t want to be far of her country, because she believed someday, with a united nation, blacks against whites, blacks will win this time,...
