Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the cancer of the breast tissue. It can spread to the lymp nodes in the axillary glands as well. Breast cancer is most commonly found in women but not limited towomen. Today one in every 6 women will at some point in time be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Diagnosis
There are many ways to detect breast cancer. Most women notice a lump or bruising when changingor taking a shower. The lump is most commonly on the upper outside of the breast. The lump is usually not noticeable to the naked eye but is easily felt and usually does not cause any pain. Some otherwomen are told after having a mammogram. According to Mayo Clinic, the ways to find breast cancer include, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsies, imageguided breast biopsies and surgical biopsies.
Intro to treatments
As years pass, scientist and doctor’s knowledge of breast cancer is improving. Today almost all breast cancer is curable. There is alarge handful of treatments used including surgery, chemotherapy, biological therapy, hormonal therapy, radiation, and complementary and alternative medicine.
Surgery
“Surgical removal of the tumorachieves a cure in one third of women with early breast cancer” (Encyclopedia of Medicine). Surgery is not as simple as it sounds; there are many different types of surgery including lumpectomy,modified radical mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, simple or total mastectomy, and skin-sparing mastectomy. After be ridding the cancer tumor, most surgeons recommendremoving the axillary lymph nodes.
