The title of this novel is Bridge to Terabithia. It was written by Katherine Paterson in 1978, and published by HarperCollins.


2. Give a brief description of characters with their names.
• Jesse Oliver Aarons – is the main character and goes to 5th grade. He is the middle child in the family, with twoolder sisters and two younger sisters. He feels alone and unappreciated by his family. Jesse is secretly in love with his music teacher, Miss Edmunds. Becomes the only friend of Leslie when she moves to Lark Creek, and together they create Terabithia.
• Leslie Burke – is an intelligent, creative and outgoing girl. Just moved to Lark Creek with her parents and she’s an only child. Her familyhas money, which is something else that differences from others in the area. As a newcomer, she is only accepted by Jesse. She is the one to come with the idea of creating Terabithia. Leslie dies at the end when the rope she used to cross the creek broke and she hit her head and drowned.
• Miss Edmunds – She is the music teacher, and an unconventional one. She is the only teacher theyhad that went to class wearing jeans and was considered a kind of hippie. She is the only one to encourage Jesse to keep up with is art. She took Jesse to a museum the day Leslie drowned.
• Joyce Ann Aarons – she is the youngest of the Aarons children, and has only 4 years old.
• May Belle Aarons – of all his sisters, she is with whom Jesse feels more comfortable with. May Belle is 6years old and is clear from the beginning that she worships her big brother. Still, she is too young to be the confident Jesse needs. After Leslie dies, Jesse shows her Terabithia and made her a princess there.
• Ellie Aarons – she is Jesse’s oldest sister, and like Brenda, very spoiled. She is about 15 or 16 years old. She is very vain and conceited, and likes to annoy Jesse.
• BrendaAarons – She is the second oldest at the Aarons’ family. Like Ellie she is very spoiled. She likes annoying Jesse even more like Ellie and didn’t even stop after Leslie’s death. Brenda is very immature and is only interested in clothes and her romantic interests.
• Mrs. Aarons – is Jesse’s mother. She is much stressed and does her best to take care of her family. She is always makingJesse do his chores, while the girls do as they please. Until Leslie’s death, she didn’t show any concerned or interest in Jesse.
• Mr. Aarons – is Jesse’s father. He is constantly worried about providing for his family. He tries to be a good father to Jesse, but doesn’t know how to approach him. After Leslie’s death he tries to do his best to comfort him.
• Janice Avery – is a seventhgrader that bullies the young kids, including May Belle. When Leslie and Jesse try to get back at her to make her stop the abuses, they learn that she has had a hard life and that she is being abused by her dad. Leslie comforts her and they became friends of sorts.
• Gary Fulcher – is another bully in the story, but not as central as Janice. He and Jesse have been rivals for years and theywere competing to see who the fastest runner was but they lost to Leslie in all the races.
• Mrs. Meyers – She was Jesse’s and Leslie’s teacher and thought very highly of Leslie. Her husband also died, and after Leslie’s death she tries to comfort Jesse. Seeing her so distressed make Jesse feels like he should be comforting her.
• Bill Burke – he is Leslie’s father. He is a politicalwriter. Leslie has a close relationship with him. After her death, he moves away with his wife and Prince Terrain.
• Judy Burke – is Leslie’s mother. She is a novelist, and usually spends most of her time in a room with here typewriter. Although she seems much occupied, as does her husband, they both love Leslie very much and constantly demonstrate that love to her.
