Broadway Theatre, Animal Trainors
Berloni firstgot interested in working in theatres when he was 19 years old in 1976; he wanted to be an actor. He was part of the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut and he did the entire workshop for the theatre’splays in his college. When Goodspeed Opera House started working for the production for Annie, they needed to find a dog to play as Sandy. Because they didn’t want to pay money for getting aprofessional dog trainer and wasting their money for a dog, they asked Berloni to find a dog and train it. So, Berloni went to an animal shelter and rescued Sandy. He trained the dog by making her love thecast and to treat the theatre like if it was home. That’s Berloni secret to animal training: kindness and positive attitude toward them. The play was a success.
Later on, after a few months of theproduction of Annie, producers from Broadway called and wanted Berloni to be the animal trainer in the production of Annie at Broadway. He also wanted Sandy to be in the play. Of course Berloni acceptedthe offer and he packed his things, and he and Sandy went to Broadway. During the first few months, he was training Sandy to interact with the cast in Broadway. It was very different training Sandy inBroadway than in Connecticut. Other trainers were very harsh with Sandy so he went and trained Sandy his way. He taught Sandy how to love the new cast and to make Sandy feel like if the theatre washer home. He also trained the actors to interact with Sandy for they could also know what to do if the dog messes up. He also teaches them to be kind to the dog also for it could be kind to them. He...
