It's silly and often laughable, but it's a sweet fantasy, too, produced in loving homage to the frothiest traditions of stage and screen.Burlesque tells the story of Ali (Christina Aguilera) a small-town girl with a big voice who escapes hardship and an uncertain future to follow her dreams to LA. After stumblingupon The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club's proprietor andheadliner. Burlesque's outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingenue, who vows to perform there one day. Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship, makes an enemy,and garners the affection of a bartender and fellow musician. With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager and gender-bending host, Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage. Herspectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur arrives with an enticing proposal.

This movie is Glitter doneright. It keeps you watching until the very end by the musical numbers done throughout the movie from their beautiful yet very prominent girl cast. The direction and acting on this movingwere at their top notch. Surprisingly so, seeing as how it’s Aguilera’s debut on the big screen. The movie was definitely deserving of the Golden Globe Nomination for a good attemptbut not worthy for the Oscars. The choicest dialogue in Burlesque provokes the sort of laughter that other, intentionally funny films only dream of generating.

It was okay, and Ididn’t feel cheated paying my fare or my date’s, but it was very Hollywood and short on reality. This makes a great Valentine Day Date Movie. This is my review, and I stand by it.
