1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The opportunity. The toxinsproduced by molds (or mycotoxins) infest crops and contaminate the human and animal food. Environmental factors as excessive heat, humidity, or insects favor that infestation and the problem is promoted by climatic changes and accruing with time. Globally, it is estimated that 63% of human food is contaminated above legal limits. The animal food contamination reaches 78%. Since livestock is ultimatelyconsumed by humans the contamination is transmitted along with its undesirable impact in health. In other hand, mold/mycotoxins have a strong effect in the countries’ economy since infested crops are less productive and its cost decrease with the contamination level.
For instance in Africa, it is estimated that the European Union regulation on aflatoxins costs $ 670 million by year in exports ofcereals, dried fruit, and nuts. In USA, the potential annual cost of mycotoxin contamination of crops is estimated to range from $418 million to $1.66 billion. Regulation policies established by different countries vary depending region and products, but according some studies if strict regulations are applied worldwide expected export losses can be from $ 25 to $150 million.
Biotox Solutionshas been formed with the exclusive rights to the patented method to avoid molds proliferation by breaking the spores’ life cycle. The active ingredient is the naphthalene acetic acid a potent fungicide commercially available in the market. The formulation of different products specifically designed to act in the fields before harvest, or during storage or transportation forms parts of theintellectual property. A problem of common fungicides is its effect in food properties; MycotoxiNAA™ does not alter that properties and have an unparalleled capacity to suppress dissemination of mold and mycotoxins. Efficiency of MycotoxiNAA™ has been tested in lab conditions against other fungicides, resulted in efficiency of 70%, meanwhilecompetitors only get 40%. Currently, there are not products in market or in patent progress which avoid synthesis of mycotoxin, as MycotoxiNAA™.
