Career:
Marcelo Andrés Ríos Mayorga (born Santiago, December 26, 1975) is a retired Chilean tennis player, nicknamed El Chino and El Zurdo de Vitacura. It is considered the best athlete in thehistory of Chile.
It was the first Latin American to reach the No. 1 world ranking in the individual classification of ATP [1] (four weeks between March and April, and two weeks in August 1998). He wasthe first player in history to win three Masters Series tournaments on clay court, (Monte Carlo, Rome and Hamburg).
The "Chinese" not only to be world number one ranking in the ATP as a professional,but was the only player in history who also was in the "Junior" and "Senior". Because of this he was awarded by the Directorate General of Sports and Recreation as the "Best Athlete of the TwentiethCentury Chile.” [2]
He retired prematurely in 2004 because they can not overcome a chronic back injury and played his last professional match in the Tournament of Roland Garros 2003, at only 27 yearsold.

Beginnings:
Born in Santiago de Chile. At age nine, his mother decided to enroll in classes Marcelo tennis Sport Frances, adjacent to his home in the commune of Vitacura. He had talent, nobodydiscussed it. However, it was ambitious, showing a perfect blend of creativity and rebellion, enabling himto always try to play different shots worthy of an experienced player. Marcelo became an obsessive tennis. He lived with a racquet in hand, playing against anyone who would face. In early 1988 he wentto coach the Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica, Santa Rosa de Las Condes. Two years later, he left the tent crusade to enter the ranch Hans Gildemeister. At that moment in his life one of the greatarchitects of their success, their coach Manuel Astorga.
