1.0 PURPOSE
This procedure describes a method for verifying the calibration of the Genesys 20
spectrophotometer against certified traceable standards andrecommends maintenance
methods. It also describes the calibration of optical standards and incubators for use in
the WINdose System.
2.0 MATERIALS
2.1
Genesys 20 spectrophotometer and Operator Manual.
2.2
Thermo Spectronic Standards or equivalent and Calibration Certificate.
2.3
Genesys 20 Spectrophotometer Calibration Form [Doc#100-262].
2.4
Incubator or oven capable of maintaining60°C – 65°C.
2.5 Calibration

3.0 FREQUENCY
3.1
The Genesys 20 spectrophotometer should be calibrated monthly to ensure that
changes or deterioration of the optical systems are within acceptable limits.
3.2
The Genesys 20 spectrophotometer should be calibrated immediately after any
maintenance or repair. External cleaning, replacing the power cable, changing the
sample holder(refer to the Genesys 20 Operator Manual) or replacing the RS232
cable are not conditions that should require recalibration.
3.3
The Genesys 20 spectrophotometer should be calibrated immediately after a lamp
replacement or adjustment. The manufacturer’s stated lifetime for a lamp is near
1000 hours. Prophylactic replacement at approximately 800 hours is suggested.
Refer to the Genesys 20Operator’s Manual for the method to check the lamp
usage hours.
3.4
The Genesys 20 spectrophotometer calibration should be checked after any series
of unexpectedly low or high measurements for which no other cause can be
attributed. Such measurements can detect potential sources of change due to lamp
wear or other optical problems.
