Introduction

Technology and its evolution have brought many different changes in the way people live during these last decades. Changesthat can be easily seen in many different fields such as communication, medicine and even in each individual every day’s life.
Thus, these changes cannot also be outside of the education field, which have been also affected by the use of technology, which is used today not only for gathering information purposes but also within the same classroom.

The purpose of this paper is to give someinsights about how technological devices or resources can be used in the language classroom and the way they can be applied in a language class

1. Technology and English as a second language

Communication has improved these days. Now, we are able to communicate not only fast but also in different ways and which is more , people can communicate easily with someone who is in a different part of theworld . Our Students are no strangers to this reality since they are precisely into this new trend. Most of them have social network accounts, blogs or belong to some community where they can be constantly in touch to many different people sharing and exchanging information, opinions or different views. Education has been influenced by these technology changes and particularly Language teachingsince one of the most important language skills, communication has been obviously affected by these changes.
Now, how we as English teachers can take advantage of these new tendencies in the English classroom and specifically in a class session?

Internet and Language Teaching

Internet can be used as a source of information for students and teachers. For instance, teachers may ask students tolook for information on a specific field as part of a project or even teachers may use internet as source of reference. However, within a specific session, the use of internet may be linked to the preparation of warm-up activities. For instance, through the collection of images and videos from different sites that can be used to catch students’ attention and interest. These Images or videos canbe also used to generate discussion and communication through different activities such as asking for opinions, comparison, prediction, writing etc.
For instance, depending on the topic of the session and the language focus we could bring several resources find on the web. Therefore, if the topic is a discussion about films, we may bring a real movie review for students to check and ask them towrite their own.
Real material can be very useful because it provide students with the opportunity to check how language is used in real situations and contexts.
One idea I developed in a class session was to bring some popular TV Ads which were seen by students and were used to cause a discussion about their messages. For instance, students were asked if they thought the Ads were designed for aspecific target group or whether they thought those Ads were appropriate for different social, sex or age groups. Besides, as a post activity I asked to create their own Ads to advertise a product the teacher gave them.
As we see from the use of a source as the Internet and Television a whole session was created and developed by the same students.
Another idea to cause a writing activity was todownload the article “10 ways to be unhealthy” (previously adapted) I first made students read the article and then asked them to think whether they believed they were healthy enough. After they thought for a while I asked them to write what they think they should do to be healthier.
