The story of “Guavas" by Esmeralda Santiago appears in Writing First 3rd, a book in Bedford / St. Martin's publishers in the year of 2006 by Kirszner, L.Mandell. The story asserts in how people lose value in the little things. The arguments made by Esmeralda Santiago are summarized below.

In the story “Guavas” Esmeralda Santiago tell us how aguava tastes. She gave us a full description of the flavor and texture of this thick, firm and sweet fruit. Also she explains how to eat a guava so the seeds don’t end up in the crevices between ourteeth. At the end of the story she wrote “At night your mother makes you drink a castor oil, which she says tastes better than a green guava. That’s when you know for sure that you’re a child and she hasstopped being one” what she tried to explain was that as little kids we liked and valued different things than as adults. In the last paragraph she wrote “The guava joins its sisters under the harshfluorescent lights of the exotic fruit display. I push my cart away, toward the apples and pears of my adulthood, their nearly seedless ripeness predictable and bittersweet” what it means that she ismature and she like different things as a kid. Nor only changed her mind in the guavas she changed her mind in the way she thinks and the way she sees life. Also the guavas remembers her all the thingsshe lived in Puerto Rico, and the life she had as a child, her mom, etc.

When I was a little kid I had the same experience like Esmeralda has with Guavas but mine was about soccer. When I was alittle I played soccer every time I could like in my school recess, in the weekends, after class, holidays. I was playing soccer at any day. Another characteristic was the weather. It didn’t matter howthe weather was. I and my friends didn’t mind if it was raining, sunny or if the day was windy. We played soccer anyhow, anyways.
