Stayed the night in San Fernando de Apure (with relatives of Mariange) ____________

Saturday 8
JOURNEY BY CAR Biruaca; Rio Piedra; Rio Aruaca, from Columbia; Rio Capanapar; Rio Orinoco –ferry to Puerto Ayacucho (CITY).
Travelled to Puerto de Ayacucho arriving 15:15 stayed night at Enrique’s house, with Juan Carlos and Jose Gregoryio – the sister did my ironing – bathroom very basic/bare no plaster or tiles.
Sunday 9Went to meeting in Puerto Ayacucho; Michel gave talk, Jorge took the Watchtower in Jivi / Spanish – we sat in assembly hall style building – part of which open air, where we had the meeting in Jivi, and part of which is enclosed and where the Spanish congregation hold their meetings.
We travelled onward after fish lunch (Almuerzo) we had purchased in street from a wheelbarrow in the street inPuerto Ayacucho.
At river Orinoco took flatbed ferry to Isla Raton; to the house of a family we had brought with us from whom Douglas and Mariange had rented. They did some preparation cleaning of the house for us and; the husband re-connected the house to the Main grid, with his bare hands!! The house is spacious but very basic. We wash by scooping water out of an oil-drum, and flush the loo bythe same means. No mirrors, no shelves, the soap and toilet paper are in holes in the wall, and the floor has to be regularly flushed with water to get rid of dirt.
Marko witnessed to a local person for some time, we waited, unpacked and put up hammocks, we have 5 of us sleeping in one room in Hammocks.
I rode a motor bike and a scooter, to everyone’s surprise, as they don’t really know me andwhat I can do. I enjoyed this very much because I have not driven anything for some months.
Monday 10 (Outline)
Got up at 6 and left at 8:30
Went to the port in Isla de Raton, waited for Michel and 23 others to join us for the trip south (up the river) to preach – I did not know we were waiting for them until this morning
We loaded our luggage and the literature onto the boat, and while othershad a ‘comfort break’ (went to the loo) we witnessed to locals on bank of the river.
I took Douglas on back of his scooter to pay ferryman and crunched scooter on the ground twice, because the holes in the road on the island (as everywhere in Venezuela) are so big, and the scooter could not cope with our combined weight over such holes. On another occasion Douglas was following our vehicle on theIsland and we watched him fall off. It was all part of the fun.
We left Isla de Raton and went down river to the first community.
