Cardin boxing tourmament finals
The "hottest land” in the eastern Cuba remained with high temperatures and Rafael Castiello Hall continued crowded, because theGuantanamo residents did not miss a single day among the five involved in the 40th International Tournament “Giraldo Cordova Cardin” concluding Wednesday 28.
As expected, Cubawon all the gold medals offered without leaving anything for anyone. Thus, the eleven went to the boxers of the Caribbean island. First, Pablo Vicente Carmona (48 kg) wonagainst the Hindu Sinhg, the heavyweight Robert Alfonso (91) beat Alexei Mhukin from Australia with a convincing 11-3 bout.
The uninterrupted sequence of victories byboth Cuban team was followed by Guantanamo Marcos Forestal (54), who had as strong rival the world runner- up Santosh Sighn. In 60 kg the champion was Josniel Toledo and in 51Rosniel Sotolongo, Beijing bronze medalist, world champion in Morocco, head of the Moscow World Cup, among other results.
The superheavyweight Erislandis Savón won goldby RSC and Emilio Correa Jr. won by withdrawal.
Not only were rewarded active sport athletes, also they honored some of the great Cuban boxing personalities thatbrought so many victories for our country. It´s included the world champeon Felix Savon, Candelario Duvergel, Jose Aguilar, Duke Estable, Aristides Cintra who received diplomasby Alberto Juantorena, athletics Olympic Champion.
In this issue the Honor Roll was made up by Cuban fighter Adrian Lescaille as the most technical, Australian AlexeyMhukin, the most combative. The best fight was that of Rodriguez Yorman against Hindu Santosh Sihgn. Orlando Acebal was the best coach and best referee, Manuel Montero
